Special Rides & Extra Lessons

When you come for a three week session, you get to look forward to participating in some of the special types of riding that you can do only here at SJ! Campers also have the opportunity to sign up for a variety of other riding opportunities like private lessons and horse shows.

Swimming with the Horses

One of the activities most looked forward to by our riding campers each summer is the chance to go swimming with the horses. On especially hot days, your instructor will take you and your horse to the horse pond where you get to splash through the water and get your feet wet while your horse swims through the deep end of the pond.

Supper Rides

Once each 3-week session, each riding group tacks up their horses with saddlebags full of hot dogs, s’mores, and chips and heads out for a trail ride. During these “Supper Rides” you’ll find your campsite and learn how to securely tie your horse to a tree, build a fire, and roast the perfect marshmallow for your s’more.

After you finish with supper and clean up the campsite, the group heads out on the trails.

Private and Semi-Private Lessons

Many of our campers choose to sign up for private or semi-private lessons for their time at camp. These lessons are a great opportunity to develop more advanced skills, practice on the x-country course, or take a dressage lesson.

Show N’ Learn Horseshow

These are offered during our 2 and 3 week sessions. Campers may enter either or both of these. The Show’n Learn consists of three classes in each division with ribbons given out for each class. The Show ‘n Learn operates just like a regular schooling show, with the major difference being that the judge gives instruction throughout the show. This is a great beginning show experience as well as a way for girls more experienced in showing to learn what a judge is looking for.

Horse Trials

The 3-Phase Horse Trial (Event) consists of a dressage Test, Cross-country, and Show Jumping phase. The Cross-country course consists of about 14 jumps on our cross country field and in the woods and we offer two different levels. The dressage test is a beginner novice test and campers learn it before show day. The show jumping phase is also offered in two different levels.

Sign-up information will be sent pre-camp for those who have registered.
